CERTIFICATE IN PARALEGAL PROFICIENCY
The GIMPA Law School proudly introduces “CERTIFICATE IN PARALEGAL PROFICIENCY” training programme for paralegals and persons wishing to become paralegals. The programme is especially useful for persons working in law firms or state parastatals or those wishing to work in these areas.
The three-week intensive training program is carefully tailored to meet the demands of the work of paralegals in the 21st Century in both the public and private sectors. Course participants will acquire an understanding of general principles of law, and receive theoretical and practical training in specific legal subjects, legal ethics and business practices.
Course Description
The programme seeks to introduce paralegals to a general understanding and competences of the work of paralegals in various establishments including law offices and the Attorney-General’s Department. By adopting a pedagogy that combines practical and simulation exercises, the course will equip participants with the skills and tools of legal research, drafting, legal advising, law office management, and other ancillary lawyering skills. The training further aims at giving participants general and specific knowledge of the litigation process and the role of the paralegal as a legal assistant in the client and case management within the context of the law office. The course would thus provide broad perspectives on fact gathering, client conferencing, among others. In light of emerging issues on the legal professional field globally and in Ghana, the training would give equal emphasis to the issue of ethics and professional responsibility.
