The aim of the Legal Education programme is to assist in training professionals who need basic knowledge of law for their day-to-day operations at their workplaces. II. LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT LAW
7th – 9th March 2012
The personal identity of each individual, as well as his or her social relations, is forged largely within and around the workplace. Active life starts and ends with work. Work assumes a paramount importance in our lives. Legal regulation of work and the employment relations in many liberal constitutional democracies have assumed great eminence within the circle of laws generally seen as primordial for socio-economic development and growth.
The course is essentially related to principles of labour law in relation to collective rights, trade unions, collective bargaining, and human rights such as freedom of association. It also includes employment law, which tends to focus on the individual contract of employment and the employment relationship.

The Commercial Transactions course takes a practical look at the technical legal issues and key drafting issues associated with four distinct commercial transaction that together traverse the life cycle of a business, from the establishment phase, through expansion, exit, and finally, winding up.

IV: INTERNATIONAL CONTRACT
Date: 28th – 30th March (3days)
The course will examine principles of international contract law, using the Unidroit Principles, reviewing their structure and scope; basic ideas including freedom of contract, openness to usages, favor contractus, fair dealing and good faith, policing unfairness; purpose; and uses. The influence that the International Chamber of Commerce has over international contract law, together with concepts and procedures inherent to international contract arbitration will be reviewed and analyzed. A broad array of documents typically used in international business transactions will also be explored.

V. CRITICAL TOPICS IN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
2nd – 4th April 2012 (3days)
This module is designed as a practical and exploratory course through which participants are expected to be introduced to topics dealing with the complexities of corporate governance in an emerging economy such as Ghana’s. It would adopt a practical approach to an understanding of the Companies’ Act within the context of corporate administration in Ghana and more especially viewed against the background of advancing the interests of key constituents such as shareholders and employee interests as controllers and managers. By adopting a comparative approach when necessary, the course will provide broad insights for participants into the issues to be discussed and dealt with

VI. ADMINISTRATIVE LAW
15th – 17th April 2012 (3days)
The module on administrative law is intended both as an introductory and critical insight into the legal and regulatory framework governing the administration of corporate entities and the public service in Ghana. It adopts a contemporary approach in treating relevant topics and situates the principles of administrative law within the requirements of the current constitutional regime in which administrative justice represents a pivotal value. Course participants will be treated to a wide range of topics that straddle mainstream administrative law, relevant constitutional law and introductory to the Ghanaian legal system.
